I. CAMERA SETUP
Step 1. Determine camera location
The ideal location for the camera is:
-
12 to 20 feet to the left or right of door
-
4 to 6 feet from exterior wall
Why does the camera location matter? Improved Counting Accuracy
- A profile view helps determine whether a customer is entering or exiting the store.
- It provides a latitude view, so the camera motion detectors do not get triggered by shadows that cover the floor.
- Less front window glare.
If the camera is not mounted near the ideal location, please be prepared for us to recommend relocating it during step 4.
Step 2. Connect the camera to the network
- Run Network Cable
Cat 5e or cat 6 SHIELDED ethernet network cable with RJ45 connectors will need to be run from the network router/switch to the camera mount location. An extra 15 feet of cable is recommended.
Note: White color cabling is recommended to blend in with the walls or ceilings. - Connect POE Injector
Note: If your router or switch has a POE port (Power Over Ethernet), you
will not need the POE injector. Just connect the long cable directly to
the POE port on the router or switch.- Connect the POE injector to electrical power using the power
adapter. - Using the short shielded network cable, connect from the router
or switch to the "LAN IN" port on the POE injector which is next to the power light and cable. - Connect the long shielded network cable from the "POWER+DATA OUT" port on the POE
injector to the camera.
- Connect the POE injector to electrical power using the power
Important Note: It is strongly recommended that the POE injector be connected via a short cable to the router and a long cable be strung all the way to the camera. Otherwise, the POE injector will end up getting disconnected from power when salespeople are performing normal activities, such as vacuuming and moving products around on the floor. (We have seen this happen too many
times. The camera ends up getting disconnected and misses counts for a period of time. Extra support time is required for customer and DoorCounts personnel to resolve the situation).
Step 3. Configuration
Step 4. Contact Us
Once you have completed steps 1-3 contact us. We will work together to review the camera placement and complete the configuration of the camera so it can start counting people entering the store.
Please have the following information ready:
Public IP address (search "my ip" on Google)
Phone: 1(833) 503-9934
Email: support@doorcounts.com
INSTALL CHECKLIST
- You can access the camera using Axis IP utility
- Port-forwarding is configured on the store network
- The camera is facing the front door like the example from step 3
- Call/email DoorCounts support to validate the camera position (while at the store)
- DoorCounts has confirmed they can access the camera
II. TROUBLESHOOTING
Problems setting the IP address | |
The device is located on a different subnet |
If the IP address intended for the device and the IP address of the computer used to access the device are located on different subnets, you cannot set the IP address. Contact your network administrator to obtain an IP address. |
The IP address is being used by another device |
Disconnect the Axis device from the network. Run the ping command (in a Command/DOS window, type
|
Possible IP address conflict with another device on the same subnet |
The static IP address in the Axis device is used before the DHCP server sets a dynamic address. This means that if the same default static IP address is also used by another device, there may be problems accessing the device. |
